Real Hip-Hop

A new year and a new vision. I know that it has been a super long time since I have posted to this blog. Maybe I wasn't inspired. Well, that's a part of it. The other part of it was the fact that I have been really pissed about the music that I have been subjected to listen to. I really think that real hip hop needs to take a stand and create a wave of truth.

Listen I have no problem with party music, or feel good music. I do tracks like this myself. But come on people! Where are the tracks that make you think? Or the tracks that make you twist up your face like someone who dropped a deuce and said that that was some shit. I mean where is these tracks people. I want to talk about music that moves people. In the next five to ten years are we really going to remember the cats that are here now. I feel that these cats are only in it for the money.

My Goal for this blog as it was in the beginning was to bring you the best in Hip-Hop and R&B. I may actually put some other genres if they are actually saying something. And as always I will bring you all the things that I am doing in the studio.

I will Always remain

Mixtape Tuesdays/Thursdays K.R.I.T Wuz Here

It has been a long time that I have heard an entire mixtape and wanted more. I must say that when I heard the first track from DJ Wally Sparks Presents K.R.I.T Wuz Here mixtape, I was hooked. This Mississippi native was by far one of the most lyrical MC's I have heard come from the south I think since Andre 3000. Yes I said it. I don't want to go into it so much but I want you to listen for yourself. Here's the link.

Monday Rant (R all the Artist Gettin Lazy?)

As you can see I have a Icon of Alicia Keys in this post. Notice that this is her last album, before this Element of Freedom. Why do you ask I have this album instead of her latest? Well, I am glad you ask. I believe that Alicia Keys as an artist is either getting lazy or needs to not fix what was not broken. I am serious. What the hell is going on? I listened to this album at least seven times and I swear the only song that stuck out with me was Un-Thinkable. I love that song. But that's it. As an artist I am all for stretching and trying new things but come on man. If what your stretching towards is about to rip a muscle, don't you think you should find another exercise to perform!

Let me be honest, Alicia is not the only artist that is not pulling her weight. I mean lets look at mainstream hip-hop. Besides Ludacris, Jay-Z, and Eminem (And maybe a few others), who out there is really pulling their weight or keeping their fans attention. And yes I know you have your Die Hard fans and STANS, But I am a fan of AKeys and I will mention an artist whom I am in love with, Janet Jackson, Ill end with this. IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT.

New Artist (Wash)

Ok, I'm not into the whole jerkin movement. You know the tight multi colored clothes and a mix of other things that I can not mention. However It is my job to bring to you new hip-hop. Just got my hands on this new artist Wash, 21 from Orlando FLA. Now I listened to the the track and I like the beat but I think that I'm just lost into the notion that it's just not for me. Maybe it may grow on me, but just give me music that is going to hit me hard and be like Damn, that shit was hot! Take a listen to the track and let me know what you think.

R&B "Hump-Day" Wednesdays

As you can see, I am really working towards posting a new post everyday and also with a specific theme, and today is no different. Wednesdays are now known as R&B "Hump-Day" Wednesdays. What does this mean. Well being that normally Wednesdays are known as hump day, I figured that I would put a little spin on it for you guys.

My First R&B review will have to be Janelle Monae and her breathtaking, and off the hook album The ArchAndroid. This woman is the shit when it comes to R&B right now. I mean I could not tell you the last time that I got excited about music like this. Wait backtrack. I got this excited when I heard Michael Jackson for the first time and when I saw Prince's "Purple Rain," over and over and over. Those that know me know that I fell in love with music with Michael, and wanted to become a performer and musician when I saw "Purple Rain."(Shit I've seen that move at least 30 times buy the age of 6). Well this young lady gives me that same feeling all over again. I'll tell you, from the time that I listened to the introduction, I was hooked.

My GOD, It has been a while since I was memorized by a musician and his/her music. Janelle is a true artist, musician and performer. I was first introduced to her during her BET Lifetime Achievement Tribute for Prince. At first I was like who is this? I thought she was very attractive and her performance was great. (Listen I was paying close attention, because Let's go Crazy is one of my favorite songs off of the Purple Rain soundtrack.) After that I saw a performance that she had on the David Letterman show and was truly amazed by her performance of Tightrope. From that performance I decided to pick up her album.

To me The AnchAndroid is the perfect storm of music. Janelle blends Funk, Rock and Roll, R&B, Pop, & Hip-Hop in a way that I do not hear very often. I believe that this is the reason why I feel that I gravitate towards her as an artist, as a musician and a performer. As an artist I believe that she stands by herself. There is no one right now that can hold a candle to her. Her music is creative and her words are thought provoking. At times it seems that the album has multiple directions, but they all work together in harmony and seem to bring you to a place musically that only musicians like, Michael Jackson, Prince, & Andre 3000 can do. I can only pray that I can be that influential as an artist. I know that I have been talking forever and this is probably the longest post I have had on here fro a while but, Janelle Monae is the Business and she is going places. You Guys need to pick up her album right now, not later but now!

Jae Millz Dead Presidents (Mixtape Tuesday's)

Ok so I got my hands on this fairly new Jae Millz Mixtape and at first I didn't know what to really expect. I know that Jae, is currently part of the young money camp and I have heard him on some tracks here and there. But nothing really seemed to impress me at all. So needless to say I wasn't really expecting this mixtape to change my mind. However I decided to listen to the tracks with an open mind. From the top I have to say that I liked it. It has been a while since I have heard an album, let alone a mixtape have a direction, purpose or stick to a theme. This Dead Presidents mixtape did. Now don't get me wrong. You guys already know how I feel about rappers spittin about i'm a split your wig or I cook that coke, but I honestly felt that this was a little different as in terms of the delivery. Jae's flow is definitely something that I have been looking for. He reminds me of the early 90's flow and I don't really hear that kind of passion any more. The Standout track is Green Goblin. Jae has a slick mouth and I must say I like the kids word play. Take my word for it , download the mixtape and decide for yourself. Download Here

Mixtape Tuesdays

I guess since the advent of peer to peer file sharing, hip-hop artist have been trying to find the best way to stay relevant and provide great content for their "fans." Enter the mixture. Now the mixtape is nothing new. I remember when mixtapes were put together by dj's showcasing new or existing artist some shine. Now however the mixtape has been taken a whole new level of exposure. My goal on tuesdays are to highlight new mixtapes that I get my hands on and will like to share with you.

New post later today,

DaneJa
